In volume production, filing cabinets, metal desks, and the wide diversity of metal furniture are usually assembled by resistance welding.

The illustration shows a machine for assembling “top-hat” stiffeners to metal shelves. Due to the diversity of product, it is programmed for six different shelf widths, with one to five stiffeners per shelf. It is suitable for easy batch production. It uses a welding technique to minimise weld marking on the show face.
